What People Are Saying

“My son was in 2nd grade when we found out about his learning difference. We started tutoring with Rachel and we are very happy with the results.”

“K----, is now age 13, and entering 8th grade.  He's doing very well in school and is holding As and Bs in his Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, and Science classes.  I feel that we owe his significant progress and ability to be at grade level to the extra support Rachel provided him. The Barton method was instrumental in improving his reading fluency and his continued success in reading new and more difficult vocabulary as he ages.  K---- had qualified for an IEP in 4th grade, after living in Japan for grades K - 3. The focus of his IEP was reading. Rachel worked hard with him and covered books 1 - 6 with him. After 2 years of 2x weekly tutoring, during K----'s 4th and 5th grade years (ages 9-10), we moved from California to Oregon.  Upon enrollment in the new school in Oregon, they had to assess K----'s eligibility for the IEP. In Oregon, the testing showed he was no longer at such a significant gap and was no longer eligible for the IEP. We've kept the 504 plan to allow for extra time and reading assistance if he requests it. I feel extremely lucky to have found Rachel when we moved back from Japan and the lessons she gave him were just terrific!!

I'm truly appreciative of Rachel’s hard work and the wonderful results!

“I've worked with Ms. Abramovitz for many years as 2/3 teacher and I have been very impressed with her level of expertise and her kindness towards students.  She has helped numerous students who struggle with reading become confident and fluent. She is very consistent and calm when working with students, and also very professional.  I've attended her Staff Trainings and found them highly informative and helpful. I would highly recommend Ms. Abramovitz and her Barton Program.

In addition, Ms. Abramovitz has worked on math skills and facts with my students, and I've seen great improvements in their skills and confidence.”

“Our family highly recommends this very rewarding program. Our child was assessed in first grade and we started the Barton Reading and Spelling program with Rachel in second grade. Our daughter completed all 10 Barton books, the last few being very interesting and useful for her years in high school and college. She learned more than reading and spelling with Rachel, it gave her confidence. Even after completing the Barton program 9 years ago, she still comments on the nurturing relationship with Rachel, and the valuable tools and ideas she learned. Throughout high school, she contributed to the school literary magazine and now at UC Berkeley, she is studying English and Creative Writing. Hard to believe when we think back to second grade.

As an adult with dyslexia, I still do not enjoy reading and writing. I can't tell you how grateful we are to have had Rachel and the Barton program available to our family. We believe it was a total life changer for our daughter.

“Rachel has been an invaluable help to some of my most struggling readers! She is extremely well versed in the process of learning to read and how to break down this seemingly simple task into small, explicit tasks and goals that eventually lead to a confident reader! It is so wonderful to see students who have previously shared they CAN'T read to progress to the point where they are helping their peers and sharing what they've learned. Rachel's tutoring not only helps kids learn to read, but it helps improve their image of themselves as learners. Their writing, math, and overall school experience become more enjoyable and fun! I highly recommend her services to anyone looking to help their students.”

“I have had the pleasure and honor of working with Rachel for over ten years in several of her professional capacities.  As a mentor, staff trainer, and tutor trainer Rachel is extremely knowledgeable, well organized, thorough, and generous in sharing information.  As a tutor, Rachel is very skilled, creative, thoughtful, and caring. Rachel is diligent and efficient so that she is able to successfully manage multiple diverse projects simultaneously and, in each of her roles, Rachel is passionate about helping to transform struggling students into confident and successful learners!”
